Privacy Policy

The short version

Word Sieve solves words in your browser without sending the letters you enter to a server. There are no accounts, no cookies, no analytics of any kind, no uploads, and no server-side solver. The site does not save your racks or results between page loads. We do not sell your data. Your browser can cache public files, and the host processes the requests needed to serve them.

What the site does not save

Word Sieve does not use browser storage to save your searches or preferences. Specifically:

• no cookie is set, for any purpose, including no consent cookie, because there is no consent to record;
• no entry is written to local storage;
• no entry is written to session storage;
• no IndexedDB database is created;
• no service worker is registered;
• no rack, result, setting or preference is retained between page loads.

Your browser can cache the site's public pages and dictionary files under the site's HTTP caching headers. Those files contain no entered racks. This is separate from saving your searches: the site has no rack history or saved preferences to load when you return.

The letters you type

A rack stays in the text field while you type and in page memory while the solver computes the answer. Nothing you type is sent to a server for solving or any other purpose. The solver runs in your tab against downloaded dictionary files. The site's Content-Security-Policy allows connections only to this site's own origin.

During a solve, the browser requests plain-text index files under /wordlist/ for the word lengths it needs. A request for shard-07.txt identifies a seven-letter index file. The requested files can reveal a length range, but the requests contain no rack letters. The byte count on a solver page is the loaded shard text before compression, and it can include text loaded by earlier searches on the same page.

No analytics

This site runs no analytics, and neither does any other site we operate. There is no beacon, no tag manager, no pixel and no visitor counter.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes standard technical data, including IP address, user agent and requested URL, to deliver pages and protect against abuse, subject to Cloudflare's privacy policy. These requests include page assets and any dictionary shards fetched for a solve. They do not contain the letters you enter.

Advertising

Word Sieve shows no advertising, and no advertising script loads on any page. Some pages carry reserved ad spaces that are switched off. They sit in the written sections, away from the letter entry and the results list.

Email

If you email hello@wordsieve.com, your address is used only to reply to you and is not added to any list.

Children

The site is a general-audience utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
